This article is not really about black humor or silly jokes about twins or DNA mix-ups; it just spends a bit of time taking a look at the lighter side of forensics.
They are drop dead gorgeous these guys, literally. They are the pin-ups in the new Men of Mortuaries 2008 Calendar and the bodies they are showing off are truly hot (not cold).
The men of the Men of Mortuaries 2008 Calendar are all funeral directors, embalmers and morticians from across the U.S.A. and they are flexing their pecs for a good cause; women with breast cancer.
The buffed dudes in the Men of Mortuaries 2008 Calendar were selected from a contest and casting organized by McKenzie Mortuary of Long Beach, California. This was the second one; they produced a similar, successful calendar last year.
These 12 hunks all volunteered their time to raise money for Kamm Cares, a non-profit organization created by Kenneth McKenzie to honor his sister as she battled and overcame breast cancer. Kamm Cares places money directly into the hands of women going through breast cancer treatment and makes their lives a little better.
Flickr is a well known photo hosting site with great social networking functions like groups and widgets. It has many functions and facilities for its members and has now jumped into the gene pool with Flickr DNA.
Flickr DNA gathers public information about any Flickr member, analyzes it, organizes it, and creates a high-level overview. Members can add a DNA button to their Flickr profile or blog as a way of introducing new contacts to their photos. This is not forensics, just a bit of Flickr DNA fun.
Ever dreamed of hanging truly original art on your walls? Many people dream of owning a Van Gogh, a Picasso, a Klimt or a Jackson Pollock – others get lost in the sensuality of Virginia O’Keefe or lust for an Andy Warhol. But this company DNA 11 Art turns the concept of originality on its head.
DNA 11 ART is the original creator of DNA Portraits – “the world's most personal form of art”. The DNA Art depicts a person’s double helix in any range of colors they can dream, or they can combine it with the DNA of someone else and turn it into a giant poster - that is, if DNA Art is really their thing.
The blurb on their website proclaims that they have “propelled an entire industry with unique artwork based on genetic codes.” They also say their innovative masterpieces are “endorsed by the Museum of Modern Art and design stores in New York."
Whether that will impress the serious art collector or not, there is no doubt that their DNA Portraits, Fingerprint Portraits and Kiss Portraits let the buyer make the ultimate personal artistic statement, even if they’ve never envisaged owning or creating DNA Art.
It seems that in order to obtain one of these personal works of art prospective buyers have to send off to them for a kit to capture or imprint DNA, fingerprint or a kiss image. And once DNA 11 Art have the forensic sample there are many options of sizes and colors to choose from to create a truly unique work of forensic fine art.
Many celebrities have immortalized their DNA or fingerprints or kiss prints for posterity, and it does seem like an ideal gift to give the person who has everything!
