JonBenet Ramsey Case - True Crime Trivia

DNA Evidence on Size 12 Panties and Other Unanswered Questions

Dec 31, 2008 Karen Lotter

In the JonBenet Ramsey Case, the unanswered questions continue to interest true crime enthusiasts 12 years on. In spite of DNA evidence, this case is still unsolved

Many strange and weird things happened in the unsolved JonBenet Ramsey Case. One of the strangest is the "Case of the Mystery Bloomies size 12 -14 panties". Yes, the six-year-old beauty queen who usually wore a size 4 – 6 pair of panties was wearing these Size 12 panties with “Wednesday” on the front when she was found, bound and garroted in the basement of her parents' Boulder Colorado home on 26 December 1996.

So Many Unanswered Questions

One understands that a parent had to be too shocked to behave normally, but the behavior of both John and Patricia (Patsy) Ramsey, just seemed beyond weird as the tragic sequence of events unfolded and more and more questions arose, many of which are still unanswered today.

The Mystery of the Size 12 Panties

The forensic DNA from JonBenet's underwear was incomplete and would never point to or away from anyone. That is, until the new Touch DNA was recently discovered on her long johns, which matched the forensic DNA on her panties. It still did not point to anyone, but it excluded the Ramsey parents.

According to Ruth Gerstenkorn on her website – The Almost Perfect Murder of JonBenet Ramsey the Size 12 panties was the point of evidence that definitely pointed away from an intruder. (This is an old website, but Ms Gerstenkorn's views are interesting)

She explains that the underwear JonBenet was found in, was a brand-new pair of size 12-14, when JonBenet wore size 4-6. “The person who redressed her in these panties wanted to be sure her underwear had "Wednesday" on them, since she was wearing that pair the night before”, says Gerstenkorn.

More True Crime Trivia About the Size 12 Panties

  • The smaller pair of panties that JonBenet must have worn to the Christmas Party the night before has never been found.
  • Patsy Ramsey told investigators that JonBenet wanted to wear the huge underwear and so Patsy had given in. Underwear that size would never have stayed up such a small girl.
  • Did the supposed intruder have a large pair of the same brand of underwear with him, with the right day - Wednesday?
  • The Bloomies underwear come in a package of seven, one for each day of the week. The package that was opened to put on JonBenet was not recovered in the house, but was surrendered to police five years after the crime. It had been in the Ramsey’s possession all that time, supposedly in a box.

JonBenet Ramsey Case Unanswered Questions

Here are some more unanswered questions about the JonBenet Ramsey Case:

  • Why was Patsy in the same clothes that morning when the police arrived as the night before, with full makeup applied?
  • How did it happen that nobody made anything of the fact that the six-year-old's pediatrician saw the young beauty queen almost 30 times during the last three years of her life? Her doctor reported bubble baths as a possible source of her chronic vaginal problems. (Five visits in one year).
  • Why didn't the Ramseys tell the police that construction workers remodeled the kitchen prior to Thanksgiving and may have gone to the basement for tools and water? Were they afraid the "shoeprints" would be identified?

Classic True Crime Trivia

These unanswered questions and many others have become part of classic crime trivia as people still struggle to come to terms with the fact that a beautiful six year old child could be taken and garroted in her parents home, right under their noses. Read about the interest in the Ramsey case on the Remembering JonBenet Ramsey Forum.

DNA Evidence and Forensic Experts

There was plenty of DNA and other forensic evidence although a lot of it was contaminated. Some of the world’s leading forensic experts became involved in the case; they all pronounced their own views, and still the killer of young beauty queen, JonBenet Ramsey has not been found.

You need to check your facts about this case! What a bunch of baloney! Would you like me to list the errors and cite the proof of them? You do a disservice to the resolution of this murder by perpetuating lies and myths. Read the Patsy Ramsey Deposition conducted in 2000 in Atlanta (LESS than five years after the murder of this child) and you will get some idea of only ONE of the many errors on this page. To be relying on Ruth Gerstenkorn a factual source is your FIRST mistake. An outrage.
